When you’re trying to get pregnant, sometimes it feels as though nature is not on your side. A lot of this can come from a lack of knowledge about women’s bodies. Did you know that women only ovulate for 12 to 48 hours out of the month? This means that it’s not possible to simply get pregnant at any time, and it’s all about timing it right.

Sometimes though, even if you try and work out your ovulation days, you may be slightly off the mark and it’s not worth missing out on valuable months by guesstimating.

Take the guesswork out of starting a family by correctly working out when you’re ovulating with Clearblue Digital Ovulation Test. The tests are over 99% reliable and they correctly pinpoint your 2 most fertile days, to help give you the best possible chance of conceiving.

When you’re ovulating, a fertility hormone known as LH surges, and this increase can be detected in your urine. Using a simple dip-test method, the ovulation test successfully picks upon when your levels are higher and therefore helps you to understand when you’re at your most fertile.

In a study, the tests were found to be twice as accurate at predicting ovulation than relying on calendar methods and tracking your own cycle. The digital tests are also proven to be clearer and easier to read than line tests.

You will need to know your usual cycle length before you start, so that you ensure you test at the right time. To work this out, count the day that your period starts as day 1 and then keep counting each day before the first day of your next period - the number of days is your cycle length.

The day on which you test varies based on your cycle length, so be sure to check the enclosed table of information to know when to use the ovulation test. Once you know, you can use the test at any time of day but keep it consistent each time.

Try not to urinate for four hours before you do the test and avoid excessive intake of fluids before doing it. For this reason, most women find it best to use the first urine of the day to complete the test.

To complete the test, remove it from the foil wrapper and take the cap off. Insert the test stick into the holder by aligning the pink arrows on each. Simply push it in until it clicks into place. Once this has been prepared correctly, the ‘test ready’ symbol will appear and you should use it immediately.

Place the absorbent end of the test into your urine stream (pointing downwards) and keep it there for 5 to 7 seconds. If you are unable to do this or would simply rather not, then you could collect a small sample of your urine in a clean, dry container (not included) and then dip the test into it for 15 seconds.

Lay the test flat or with the absorbent end pointing downwards and after 20 to 40 seconds, the ‘test ready’ symbol should start to flash to indicate it is working. Replace the cap and wait for 3 minutes.

Within the 3 minute wait time, the display will show your result. An empty circle means that the test hasn’t found an LH surge and you are not at your most fertile. You should test again at the same time the next day, using a new test stick. A smiley face in the display means that the test has detected an LH surge and your 2 most fertile days are that day and the day after, meaning that sex within the next 48 hours will maximise your chances of getting pregnant.

Once you have read your result (which will remain on the display for 8 minutes), eject the ovulation test stick and dispose of it. Do not re-insert a used ovulation stick and always use a new one whenever you complete another test.
