Yellow fever is a serious disease spread by an infected Aedes aegypti mosquito. It is found in parts of Africa, South America, Central America and Trinidad in the Caribbean. The mosquito is more likely to bite during daylight. It doesn’t spread from close contact with someone who has the disease.
Your Vaccination Certificate
Some countries require you to present a valid certificate of vaccination administration for yellow fever. This is known as an International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis (ICVP).
When you get your yellow fever vaccination at Streatham Pharmacy, we will issue a yellow fever vaccination certificate. Please make sure that the personal details that you provide match those on your passport or travel documents.
All vaccination certificates are now valid for life, including older ones with an expiry date on them. You’ll be given a certificate when you’re vaccinated at a yellow fever vaccination centre.
If you are experiencing any symptoms after returning from your travels, it’s essential to contact the emergency health line as soon as possible (dial 111). Below is a list of symptoms documented by the NHS for Yellow Fever.
Yellow fever symptoms usually start 3 to 6 days after being bitten by an infected mosquito, but sometimes they can take longer to appear.
Those travelling to Saudi Arabia for Hajj and Unrah or seasonal work, require the Meningitis ACWY vaccination. The vaccine protects babies, children and adults from brain and nerve damage as well as blood poisoning.
Malaria is caused by mosquitos and without having the right treatment, adults and children can become severely sick and can result in death. Antimalarials help prevent either from happening.
